onstruction defects can appear or develop for several reasons.  A construction defect is a deficiency in the design or construction of a building or structure. The cause of the condition can be the result of faulty design, materials, and/or workmanship. However, sometimes, construction defects can be revealed through local weather conditions or major weather systems or developments, like storms or rapid temperature changes.

La Niña has started to form in the Pacific North West. Generally, El Niño’s bring wet weather to the region. San Diego last experienced a weak El Niño in 2019. La Niña is the opposite as it generally keeps areas dry and warm. In southern California, the area is known for its comfortable weather, but with the news of La Niña incoming, it has the potential to be a deadly and damaging winter.

According to climatologist Bill Patzert, “Typically speaking, La Niña’s turn out dry for Southern California, and El Niño’s turn out wet. But not always.” La Nina’s are often associated with colder, stormier-than-average conditions and increased precipitation across the northern parts of the US.

Currently, half of San Diego and most of San Bernardino and Riverside are abnormally dry. If the La Niña turns out to be as predicted, it could continue an already historically bad fire season.

If La Niña comes to the area, be on the lookout for potential construction defects that appear in your home. You can call on us and we can figure out if you have a construction defect case, or if the damage isn’t related to a construction defect at all, and just severe weather.
